Unfinished Hobbies

From painting, to crochet, to jewelry making, I’ve tried them all (not good at any). I’m a self-proclaimed “Jack of all trades but master of none.” That’s going to be the new logo for my craft room (aka illusion room). And you know I’ll make the sign in that same room too…

Please tell me you’ve tried some craft-making and failed at a few. Our imagination betrays us into thinking we’re capable of making anything and then our hands go like “Nope, I’m not feeling this, sorry” (in other words, “sike”) so there goes that idea. In the meantime, we ended up with all the supplies we thought we needed to make whatever craft we thought we could do and a closet full of half-finished projects. This, combined with the digital folder on our phone (or app) with the pictures of everything we want to make becomes a reminder of the failed attempts at those “simple” things we convinced ourselves we could do. This eclectic nature is not a curse, but a superpower and I’m sure I’m not alone in this… right?… (right?)

If you relate to any of these, hopefully, we share this dilemma :

  • You have more hobbies than you have hours in the day.

  • Your browser history is a tangled mess of tutorials and online courses.

  • You've mastered the art of buying supplies, but not finishing projects.

  • You're never truly bored because a new hobby is always around the corner.

  • While working on one project, you get an idea for another (or a few others).

  • You get struck with creativity and challenge yourself to make your craft your own, your way

If you see many of the crafts I’ve made, you won’t be able to tell if it was me or my 10-year-old niece. Actually, she might do some of them better than me. Now, I have done some photography and while I’m good enough at it, I can be better, much better (had I finished any of the courses I’ve started). Yet, decorating and home DIYs have been a better success for me. For now, though, you only get to see this hobby of mine… blogging. And of this one, I am so proud.

Even after all that, I’d say that we should continue to dream of our favorite crafts, have fun attempting to make them, and use these unfinished hobbies as stress management, cheap therapy, or both.

Stay creative and sane everyone!
